Training—frequently asked questions

Just a Sample ImageQ. At what age do you like to get the young horse in for training?

A. Three year old and up

Q. What previous work, if any do you want the young horse to have before coming to you?

A. I prefer to do all the saddle work myself. The young horse should lead well, be used to being handled and groomed, behave well for the farrier and respect its handler. That makes my work go more quickly and saves the owner money in training that might have been done at home. However, unless an owner is very experienced, doing much more than that can sometimes add training time rather than save it, as it takes more time to fix problems that to avoid them.

Q. What facilities do you have — stalls, ring footing, etc?

A. Each horse has a 12' by 12' stall. Turnout is in individual grass paddocks for about 12 hours per day (night time turnout in the summer). The ring is a regulation dressage arena with a good sand/clay base.

Q. What should I send with my horse?

A. You will need to send a halter and lead, bridle, any supplements, any blankets or sheets if it is cool.

Q. Can I visit and see my horse in work.

A. Of course. I need to have a couple of weeks before showing you a lot of progress, but visits are always welcome.

Q. Will you help me sell my horse?

A. Yes

Q. Can I arrange to have my horse shown?

A. Yes
